Parents are invited to get in touch with us if you are able to help in any of the following ways:
Help at Section nights
Parents are always welcome to help at Section meetings, either on a regular or occasional basis. Many section night activities are divided into bases-groups of say six or eight youngsters and each really needs an adult to supervise the activity-don’t worry the leaders will give you all the information you need to run the activity. You don’t have to wear uniform! If you’d like to do this, speak to your Section Leader to discuss or contact the Group Scout Leader.
Help running a special activity
As parents, you may have special skills, hobbies or even an unusual occupation, which would be of interest at one of our Section nights. Let your child’s Leader know if you have something to offer as a one off activity at a section night.
Help with fund-raising
Like all Scout Groups, we are a Registered Charity and always seem to have ambitions beyond our financial means! Our next major project is the replacement of our current minibus. We do, therefore, run a number of fund-raising activities during the year, such as our BBQ and stalls at the Richmond May Fair. We need help to run these activities and are always looking for new ways to raise money. If you can help at May Fair or on any of our fundraising evenings please let your son or daughter’s Leader know.
Help at Camps
Most camps are held over a weekend, normally Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. These are always run by Leaders, but parents are very welcome to come along too and help out once they have become CRB checked under the Occasional Helper scheme. There will always be plenty for you to do!
Help maintaining our Hut
Our headquarters is leased from the Council but as a Group we are fully responsible for its care and maintenance. We organise maintenance days twice a year and even if you can only come down for a couple of hours, a large group of parents can change a daunting task into something speedily achieved.
